The Golden Temple in Dambulla is a revered pilgrimage destination, featuring a cave monastery with five sanctuaries. It is one of Sri Lanka's largest and best-preserved cave temples, with ancient Buddhist mural paintings from the 15th and 16th centuries and 157 remarkable statues.

Anuradhapura Buddhist Pilgrimage tour

Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka around 236 years after Buddha's death, during which Anuradhapura was the capital. The ruler at that time was Devanam Piya Tissa, a contemporary of the great Indian king Ashoka, who propagated Buddhism to many countries. With the advent of Buddhism, the city rose in significance, marking the beginning of a grand construction era that saw the creation of several massive monastery complexes and some of the tallest buildings of the ancient world.
