Kaudulla National Park is considered a paradise for bird watchers. Historically, Kaudulla was renowned for an irrigation tank constructed by King Mahasen. This tank was restored in 1959, drawing a diverse array of plants and animals. Situated in the Polonnaruwa region, the park is a major attraction for tourists visiting the area.

A safari trip through most of the park takes around three hours. The park is home to numerous elephants and other animals, including leopards. Many tourists also visit Minneriya National Park, which is larger and more popular than Kaudulla, and both parks are located close to each other.

The ideal time to visit is during the dry season from July to October, when lower water levels make it easier to spot animals near the water tanks. However, the park is open to visitors all year round.

Temperatures range from 29°C, the coolest in February, to 31°C, the warmest in April.

Places to stay are EKHO Lake House, Siyanco Holiday Resort, Hotel Sudu Araliya, Tishan Holiday Resort, Agbo Hotel, Giritale Hotel, Honey Tree, Pharo Lake, and Monarch Residence.
