Kalpitiya is a burgeoning tourist village situated on Sri Lanka's western coast. The peninsula is made up of 14 islands. It is well-known for water sports. As a developing tourist destination, it might not be ideal for those seeking vibrant nightlife, especially if it's your first visit to Sri Lanka and your schedule is tight.
Many hotels offer kite surfing lessons and equipment rentals. During the season, kite surfers fill the lagoon waters. Numerous boats are available for dolphin and whale watching, with prices being relatively consistent. Another attraction to explore is the old Dutch fort ruins.
Traveling to Anuradhapura from Kalpitiya is convenient. It is one of Sri Lanka's main tourist attractions. Additionally, you can go on a wildlife safari at Wilpattu National Park.
The best time to visit is from May to September, which is also ideal for kite surfing. The air is cooler compared to the usual high temperatures. November to February is also good for kite surfing and dolphin watching.
Places to stay are Atara Lagoon Kalpitiya, Surfpoint Sri Lanka Kite Village, Majestic Beach retreat, Welle Wadiya Beach Hotel, Melheim Beach Kalpitiya, Hiru Resort and Kite Surfing, The Rascals Kite resort, Margarita Village Kite School Kalpitiya.
