Trincomalee is a coastal city situated on a peninsula in the northeastern part of the country. Known as Trinco, the city boasts one of the world's most exceptional natural harbors, attracting significant interest from global superpowers. The beaches in Trincomalee are notably cleaner than those in other regions of Sri Lanka. Fort Frederick, constructed by the Portuguese in the 17th century, is a historical landmark. The Thirukoneswaram Hindu temple, also known as The Temple of a Thousand Columns, is popular among Hindus and tourists alike.
Trincomalee is also renowned for whale and dolphin watching, with these magnificent creatures frequenting the island's nutrient-rich waters for most of the year. Uppuveli and Nilaveli are among the finest beaches in Sri Lanka.
The best time to visit is from January to September and in December, when rainfall is minimal and the weather is warmer. The average temperature is approximately 26°C, varying by month.
Places to stay are Hotel Tobiko, Blue Sand Beach Resort, Anantamaaa hotel, Dot's Bey Beach Cabana, Pearl Oceanic Resort, Liyonaa beach Hotel, Bluewater Beach Resort, and Uppuveli Beach House.
