Colombo (Sinhala: කොළඹ, Tamil: கொழும்பு)

Colombo serves as the administrative and commercial capital of the country. During the day, it is the busiest and most crowded city. Most of the nightlife takes place in Colombo, where you'll find the island's top nightclubs, casinos, pubs, shopping venues, and restaurants. The highways make it easy to reach Colombo from the airport, but getting around within the city is challenging due to heavy traffic. It's advisable to avoid traveling to and from Colombo during regular office hours.

In Colombo, all forms of transportation services are available. The city is quite international for two reasons: it has been influenced by the British, Portuguese, and Dutch during their respective periods of control over parts of the country, and it has served as a port city since at least the 5th century, trading with Europe, Arabs, and Asia. Sri Lanka's main port is located in Colombo, making it an excellent starting or ending point for your holiday.

Colombo boasts a wide variety of colonial buildings, particularly in the Fort area. The Galle Face area is home to most of the country's top hotels. From the restaurant and cafe at the Grand Oriental Hotel, you can enjoy a great view of the Colombo Fort.

The ideal time to visit is from December to March when the air is cooler than the usual 30°C.
