The Sinharaja Forest Reserve is the largest tropical rainforest in Sri Lanka and is recognized as a biodiversity hotspot and a natural world heritage site. Over 60% of its trees are endemic to Sri Lanka and considered rare. Additionally, the forest is home to endemic mammals, insects, birds, and other species, playing a crucial role in the region's ecosystem.
Unlike many other national parks, access to Sinharaja is primarily on foot. Many visitors choose to stay in Deniyaya or Kudawa. Having a knowledgeable ranger or guide can greatly enhance your visit to Sinharaja.
The ideal time to visit is from January to March to avoid the rainy season.
The best places to stay Mount K Resort, 360 Rainforest, Jansens Bungalow, Mahoora Explorer by Eco team, Sinharaja Birder's Lodge, Rainforest Edge, Sinharaja Forest Gate, Evergreen Villa, and The Rainforest Ecolodge are some of them.
